ACCESSIBILITY

AUDIT

The Occupational Health and Safety Act aims to provide for the health and safety of persons at work. Complying with safety standards can be a challenge for employers that hire people with disabilities. Employees are entitled to a safe working environment and employers are required to ensure the safety of all employees, including those with disabilities. Unfortunately, pre-conceived ideas about disability often lead to different inappropriate approaches/solutions when attempting to address accessibility in the workplace. The South African National Building Regulations also require that buildings and facilities comply with acceptable safety and accessibility standards

An accessibility audit is able determine how well a particular building performs in terms of access and ease of use by a wide range of potential users, including people with mobility and sensory impairments. The audit gives a snapshot of a building at any point in time and allows for the identification of gaps and risks
